So basically I'm looking for a balance, but how do you get through lessons with diverse students (so lots of back and fourth) but still manage to keep the atmosphere fun / light? I hate being so tough all the time, but feel like I need to to get through what I need to teach..
I think that sometimes you need to be strict to get through the lesson, but you don’t want to be a robot. I'd say don’t take yourself too seriously. Joke around, and show them you’re in charge without making it all about work. Let them have their moments, but then reel them back in with a “We’re done with that” when needed. You’re the boss... keep it light when the moment's right, and keep it tough when they need to get serious.
