Late night texts from parents

This year alone, I've received about 10 or so messages after 7 PM. I usually ignore them and respond the next morning with a polite message like, "In the future, please use email for all communication." However, this doesn’t seem to stop the late-night texts. These usually include questions like: "When will grades be updated?" "What can my child do to improve their grades?" or "What should I do if my child does this..."

Is anyone else dealing with this issue? How do you handle these situations?

Tell me about it... I’ve dealt with this quite a bit in my 4 years of teaching. I learned to set clear boundaries early on by telling parents my "office hours" for communication end at 6 PM sharp - and I stick to it. I also add reminders in my syllabus and newsletters, like “For questions, please email during school hours.” If texts still come through after hours, I respond during the next school day and remind them of the policy. Consistency helps over time...

Set clear boundaries at the start of the year (!) I let parents know my communication hours and that emails will be answered within 24 hours...
