Hi all,

I wonder if anyone has and is able to share lesson plans and activities for 2nd grade around holidays and events happening in April. Here are a few specific areas I’m looking for:

  1. Easter Activities - hands-on lessons that tie into Easter themes like bunny crafts, egg hunts, or Easter-themed math and reading activities.
  2. Earth Day Lessons - Ideas for teaching kids about Earth Day through science experiments, environmental awareness activities, and creative ways to incorporate sustainability into lessons.
  3. Spring-Themed Activities - Spring crafts and seasonal activities that focus on the changes in nature, planting seeds, or learning about animals that are associated with the season.
  4. April Fool’s Day – I’m looking for fun and educational activities that incorporate April Fool’s Day in a lighthearted way, without disrupting the day’s lessons.
  5. National Poetry Month – Ideas for introducing poetry in a way that is accessible for 2nd grade students, including writing exercises and poetry reading activities.

Easter Activities: You can create Easter-themed math worksheets where students solve problems related to Easter eggs (e.g., adding or subtracting eggs in baskets). For crafts, try making bunny masks or decorating Easter egg shapes with patterns. You could also organize an Easter egg hunt that involves solving math problems hidden inside plastic eggs.


Earth Day Lessons: One idea is to have students plant seeds in small pots or in the school garden, discussing how plants grow and how we can take care of the Earth. For science, you could have a recycling sorting game, where students classify materials into “recyclable” and “non-recyclable.”


Spring-Themed Activities: For crafts, students could create flower wreaths using construction paper or make paper butterflies. A nature walk is a great way to observe the changes in the environment, like new buds and animal activity. You can also teach about animal migrations and their role in the ecosystem.


April Fool’s Day: Have some fun with riddles and jokes... students can create their own jokes or puzzles and share them with the class. For a creative twist, you could introduce a "silly sentence" writing exercise where students complete stories with funny twists.


National Poetry Month: Start with reading simple poems aloud. You can then have students write their own short poems, like acrostic poems using their names or favorite spring words. Another idea is to have a “Poetry Wall” where students can display their poems for others to read.
