What is a good amount of reading time for different age groups? Is there like a chart I should follow? My kids are 7, 9... I also have a 2 year old but might be a bit early for her 😅
Great question... In all my years of teaching I’ve noticed that consistency matters more than a rigid schedule, but here’s a general guide you can follow.
For your 7 and 9 year-olds, you want to aim for at least 20-30 minutes of independent reading a day... plus some time for reading together (if you find the time). Letting them choose books they enjoy will keep them engaged! You can also break it into two shorter sessions if they struggle with longer reading times.
And for your 2-year-old, it’s never too early! Even 5 minutes of reading aloud here and there helps tremendously 😊
