My classroom library has turned into complete chaos.. My students (I teach 2nd grade) try their best, but books end up everywhere except where they belong.. I currently have books in baskets labeled by reading level. I'm wondering if there's a better way. How do you guys organize your classroom library? Thanks!
Try maybe organizing the books by genre or theme rather than just reading level. You can use categories like Animals, Fairy Tales, and so on... this makes it easier for students to pick books that interest them and also easy to put them back. I also use clear plastic bins with labels and color-code them by difficulty level.
Another tip is to have a "library helper". Each week a different student can volunteer to keep things organized at the end of the day. Gives them responsibility and more experience organizing the classroom library :)
