so I’ve found that read-alouds are one of the best ways to connect with my 1st-grade students and build their comprehension skills. I read aloud every day, even if it’s just for 15 minutes. I ask them questions throughout the story to keep them into it, and I also try to get them to make predictions about what will happen next.... they absorb so much when we make reading interactive. Not sure how many of you guys are already doing this, but if not, HIGHLY suggested! :)

I do read alouds every single day, even if it's just for 10-15 minutes. I stop often to ask questions and talk about the characters' feelings. It keeps my students on their toes and makes them really think about what’s happening in the story.

I've found that even my struggling readers get so much out of it. When I ask, “What do you think will happen next?” or “How do you think this character feels right now?” they start making connections in a way they never did before.... It really helps build their comprehension without them even realizing it.
