I have a 7-year-old who needs help with math, a 9-year-old who refuses to write more than one sentence, and I feel like I spend more time breaking up arguments and finding missing pencils than actually teaching... How do you stay sane while homeschooling? 🙄
Homeschooling multiple kids is no joke...
I think what helped me most was realizing that expecting my kids to all work quietly at the same time was wishful thinking. Now, my younger one starts with something independent (like handwriting or a simple math worksheet), while I help my older child with writing. Then we switch, my older one moves to an independent task (reading, a workbook, or sometimes a learning app she likes like tinytap or something similar), while I work one on one with my son. This was game changing for me because it really reduces interruptions... give it a shot 😊
My daughter resisted writing. Then I started letting her dictate stories or reports to me while I typed, and then we’d go back together to edit... This helped build her confidence and think like a writer. Sometimes we also write on a whiteboard. mixing things up a bit like this really helps them focus.
My son had a tough time with math so we tried turning whatever subject we were learning into a gam. We mainly use dice and flashcard games.
