Looking for a kindergarten daily schedule for homeschoolingErica Yager

I homeschool my son (he's in Kindergarten) and I'm having a hard time creating a daily schedule, still.. I want a good balance of structure and fun, but I’m not sure how much time to spend on lessons, play, etc. I'm desperately searching for the right daily routine for us both. What does your daily schedule look like? Thanks 🙏🙏

I had the same problem when I first started homeschooling my son Noam. I struggled to understand how much time exactly I should dedicate to structured learning.. I think it's up to the parent and child to find the right schedule together. Here's what works well for us:


The Sweet Spot: 2-3 Hours of Structured Learning.


For kindergarten homeschooling, I've found that 2-3 hours of structured learning activities per day is optimal. This doesn't mean sitting at a desk.. it's a mix of:

  • Guided learning sessions
  • Interactive educational activities
  • Play-based learning
  • Lessons that work well with a short attention span 😊


Our typical day looks like this:

  • 30-45 minutes of reading and phonics
  • 30 minutes of math
  • 30-45 minutes of science (or social studies)
  • Creative activities (art, music, hands-on projects, etc)
  • Plenty of breaks, combined with some sort of physical activity


I think that because homeschooling allows lots of flexibility, it's important to mix it up. Some days we might spend 4 hours on a single project, other days just 1-2 hours. The goal is to get them excited I think, and be into whatever we're doing, not just for the sake of rigid time tracking.

  • Losing focus
  • Getting frustrated
  • Showing physical restlessness
